Obama’s DACA order was unconstitutional. There’s no argument about that. It was wrong and he shouldn’t have done it. However, he still managed to create quite a big mess. His decision to let 700,000 illegal aliens stay here just because they were children at the time gave that move a sense of legitimacy. Now, most Democrats believe that Jeff Sessions repeal of that order was some insane and callous move that must be reversed.
In reality, Sessions was following the law. Something the families who came here illegally didn’t do.
But, on the left, laws don’t matter. Emotions matter.
It looks pretty obvious that a DACA deal will get done in Congress and these twenty-something-year-olds will be allowed to stay. That’s nice for them. Not necessarily nice for the American worker or for the rule of law but hey, gotta pick your battles.
This DACA debate will be a situation where Democrats will have an opportunity to show their true colors. If they want DACA, they will have to agree to fund the wall and end chain migration. Those are two very reasonable demands that Republicans are making and if Democrats are actually serious about protecting DACA “kids” then they will make that deal. If not, they will show once again that this isn’t about DACA and instead it’s just politics.
DACA looks like it’s going to be the next tug of war in Congress especially when you remember that the DACA recipients will be left unprotected in March.
Some news about DACA broke this week that should make Trump’s life a little easier.

The Supreme Court Wednesday lifted an order requiring the Trump administration to release internal documents relating to the rescission of DACA, an Obama-era amnesty initiative that extended temporary legal status to foreign nationals who illegally entered the country as children.
The order requires a federal court in California to reconsider the administration’s two principal arguments in a lawsuit currently seeking access to the government’s internal deliberations on DACA cancellation. The Justice Department claims the administration need not release internal documents concerning DACA’s cancellation because such decisions cannot be reviewed by the courts, and because federal law deprives trial courts of jurisdiction to hear challenges relating to the Immigration and Nationality Act.
One thing is for sure, liberals are not happy with Democrat leadership on this issue.

Democratic leaders in Congress are facing criticism from progressive groups for failing to secure legislative protections for young undocumented immigrants in the year-end stopgap spending bill.
Left-leaning groups like CREDO Mobile and Democracy For America (DFA) laid blame squarely at the feet of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) after a short-term spending bill passed the House and Senate on Thursday without the protections.
“This is a monumental failure of leadership on the part of Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi,” CREDO political director Murshed Zaheed said in a statement hammering party leaders over DACA and also noting children’s health insurance.
This suggests that Democrats are feeling the pressure to get something done.
It will be interesting to see how this unfolds and let’s hope that Republicans are able to get wall funding and an end to chain migration in this deal.
Both are critically important.
